Yes. Wilmette requires a dumpster permit before delivery, including on private property. Apply through Engineering and Public Works with your proposed location and rental dates. Check the hauling-service rules below before choosing your provider.
Plan on a spot entirely on private property, usually the driveway, and include it on your permit application. A street or other public location needs the Village Engineer's approval. If you prefer your lawn, include that location in the application and call us about access and ground conditions. Construction sites also have restrictions on storing demolition debris near the public right-of-way.
Your permit is valid for six months from issue unless the Village Engineer sets a different period. That does not mean a loaded dumpster can sit for six months: construction debris must be hauled away at least weekly, and dumpsters must be emptied or removed when full. Plan pickups or swaps around your project and the dates approved by the Village. Your EcoBox rental includes 7 days.
