A dumpster rental goes smoothly when four things are settled before the truck arrives: the size, where the container will sit, what you plan to put in it, and how long you need it. This guide walks through each one, with the prices and rules EcoBox Dumpsters uses.
Size the Job First
List what you are throwing away and roughly how much of it there is. Volume decides the container size; weight decides whether anything is added to the price. Each size includes a weight allowance:
- 10-yard: $395, 1 ton included
- 15-yard: $445, 1.5 tons included
- 20-yard: $495, 2 tons included
Each price covers delivery, pickup and seven days. Weight over the included amount is $100 per ton, based on the disposal site’s weight ticket. The size calculator recommends a size from a few questions about your project.
Heavy material is the exception to sizing by volume. Roofing, concrete, dirt, rock, brick and asphalt go in the 10-yard dumpster only. A larger amount means more 10-yard loads, never a 15 or 20-yard container.
Choose Where the Container Goes
Pick a level spot on your driveway or property, with a clear approach for the truck: no parked cars, low branches or overhead wires in the way. EcoBox sets the container down with the RolliSkate placement method, on rollers rather than dragged across the surface.
If the container has to go on the street or a sidewalk, your town may require a permit. Permits are always the customer’s responsibility, so check before you book street placement. The dumpster permit guide lists the rules town by town.

Know What Can Go In
Most household, renovation and construction debris is accepted. Yard waste is accepted and can be mixed with other accepted debris. A completely empty household latex paint can, with the residue fully dried and the lid off, is accepted. Tires are $20 each, and mattresses and box springs are $100 each.
Wet paint, oil-based products, solvents, aerosol cans and commercial paint waste are not accepted, and neither are hazardous materials. The full list is on what can go in a dumpster.
Load It Well
- Break down furniture, cabinets and boxes so they lie flat.
- Put heavy, flat items on the bottom and spread the load evenly.
- Fill gaps with smaller debris as you go.
- Keep the load below the top edge of the container so it can be hauled safely.
You or your crew load the container; EcoBox delivers it and hauls it away.
Plan the Rental Period and Pickup
Your rental includes seven days, and you can keep it longer if the job runs on: extra days are $20 each and are billed until the container is collected.
Pickup is not automatic. When you are done, request pickup online, or call or text (847) 252-1111. Pickup is usually the next day and sometimes the same day, depending on the schedule. If you fill the container and need another, a swap is a new rental.
Before Delivery Day: A Short Checklist
- Size chosen, with any heavy material in a 10-yard container
- Spot cleared and the approach open for the truck
- Permit arranged if the container will sit on the street or sidewalk
- Prohibited items set aside for proper disposal
- A plan for when to request pickup
Common Questions
Do I need a permit?
Many towns require one for a container on a street or sidewalk, and some have rules for driveways. Permits are your responsibility; the permit guide and your village or city hall have the details.
What if the job grows?
Keep the container longer at $20 per extra day, or order a second container; a swap is a new rental. Heavy material still goes in a 10-yard container, whatever the amount.
What adds to the price?
Weight over the included amount ($100 per ton, from the disposal site’s weight ticket), extra days ($20 each), tires ($20 each), and mattresses or box springs ($100 each).
When can I reach EcoBox?
