- Appliances that do not contain Freon: washers, dryers, stoves and similar
- Yard waste: grass, leaves, brush, branches and similar yard debris

- Liquids of any kind
- Herbicides and pesticides
- Toxic or corrosive materials
- Asbestos
- Contaminated soil
- Hot ashes or coals
- Ammunition
- Medical or biohazardous waste
- Animal carcasses
- Radioactive materials
Where to take items we cannot accept
In Lake County, the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) lists drop-off and collection options for household chemicals, paint, batteries and electronics. Elsewhere, check your county or municipal household hazardous waste program. Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners need their refrigerant recovered before disposal, so ask the retailer delivering your new appliance or a local scrap-metal recycler.
